HarlemLive is embarking on the most ambitious fundraising drive of its six year history. Since 1996, due to the kindness of others (namely The Institute for Learning Technologies and The Boys and Girls Harbor), we've been allowed to exist rent free for the life of our program, . Our incubation period has come to an end. Programmatically, we're stronger than ever. The site (www.harlemlive.org) continues to burst with fresh content on a daily basis. We are consistently working on new projects and stories. Additionally,
we've established relationships with Oprah's
Oxygen Media, AOL
Time Warner, Teachers
College, Columbia Journalism School, The
Institute for Learning Technologies, Bloomberg
News, Rosenblum Associates, and others. Any teen joining
HarlemLive
can be set up with a mentor to be trained in the fields of journalism,
web design, public speaking, animation, video editing,
photography, fiscal management, and more. Now, HarlemLive is at a crossroads. It's time for us to jump out of the nest. Our current small office has hampered our ability to recruit new members, hold regular classes, or have an efficient work space (We were moved to the smaller area after 9-11). Although we've grown by creating strong partnerships, our space continues to limit us. Until
now. |

We have identified a loft on 125th Street, the Times Square of Harlem steps away from the world famous Apollo Theatre. It's an incredible location with great potential for HarlemLive. However, it's neglected condition requires extensive construction, plumbing, electrical and other work to make this new 'home' ready for the HarlemLive youth.

A Letter From the Editor in Chief, Danya Steele If there was ever a time to grow, its now. If there was ever a NEED to grow, its now. The HL teens I work with are incredibly smart, enthused, and anxious; quintessentially, if there was ever a pool of such potential, you guessed it.... its NOW!!! However, if there was ever the vehement need for fiscal assistance within a program that has been running successfully for nearly six years on a shoe string budget, it was YESTERDAY. My point is very simply this: We need your help. Read More ... >>>> |

We are asking everyone, and those they know, to contribute $100 to help fund our new space. HarlemLive needs 1,000 friends. You can help us be successful. We look to move by Spring 2002. We'd like to invite all of our friends to a joyous Open House. If you would, please be a friend of HarlemLive and support our effort to make 125th Street our new residence. Please donate a tax deductible check of $100 to this award winning, internationally acclaimed web magazine, produced by teens throughout New York City. We need your help!! Sincerely,
Checks or money orders should be made payable to "HarlemLive, Inc." They can be sent to: HarlemLive You can also donate by going to Helping.org (keyword: HarlemLive) To reach us by phone, call 212 222-4681 HarlemLive is a federally registered, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. |
