New Music Alert! ~ Silvertide

Contributing Writer Stacy Schwartz gets all washed up by budding rock gods Silvertide

by: Stacy Schwartz

(sil-v∂r-tId) n. Philadelphia’s famous five-some who know what rock and roll is made of.

Ever wonder what happened to real rock and roll like Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, and the Black Crowes? Well, it’s almost as if they have been mixed together and pre-humously reincarnated in the form of Silvertide.

Silvertide is:
Walt Lafty (vocals)
Nick Perri (guitar)
Mark Melchiorre Jr. (guitar)
Brian Weaver (bass)
Kevin Frank (drums)

Finally a true rock band has been discovered displaying traits that have been lost among the unoriginal acts of much of today’s music. Like many a rock band, Silvertide started out by rehearsing and writing songs day and night in a basement in Northern Philadelphia. After playing gigs throughout the state, they had the chance to open for Aerosmith in their hometown. Soon after, they were discovered by music industry genius, Clive Davis, and immediately signed a contract with J Records. “We were really surprised how fast the record deal actually came. It actually felt like just another event that was happening at that time until we actually took a step back and realized how big it was to have happened that quickly,” stated bassist Brian.

“The name Silvertide actually came from a time at the beach. One night we were all down the shore along with some friends. Nick's sister had a friend there with her and while looking out into the ocean that night her friend said it kinda looks like a silver tide. So we thought that was a cool name, we threw it on the list then narrowed it down and that one stuck," he explains, demystifing the roigin of the band's name for anyone who might be wondering.

Their energy-driven sounds are currently being put to work in the studio as they are recording their debut album. “We just finished writing the songs and flushing out all of the remaining ideas that we all wanted to work on. We hope to be done recording by the end of February or middle of March.
This first album will show each side of the band. The straight ahead rock will be there, the slower acoustic side, and also a bit of the jam side.”
The few songs already released including “Mary Jane” and “Beware” clearly show their powerful style with a mix of guitar riffs, catchy beats, and surprising solos.

“All in all our goal is too make the album something that anyone can listen to start to finish and be blown away by every song.”
