HarlemLive In Transition

After months of frustration, HarlemLive's dream has finally come true. HL has moved from a closet sized room to a shiny new office inside the Bloomberg news offices located in midtown Manhattan. In one month we will be moving into our own office on 125th street. This is a big step for HL. It's as if HL has grown up and is ready to spread its wings for the first time. For the last few years, HL has been housed by Playing 2 Win, a computer tech center in East Harlem.

But by being there, HarlemLive was unable to breathe. We were given a time to come and go which kept a lot of HarlemLive staff away because their individual schedules didn't always comply with the schedule of Playing 2 Win. But when we finally moved out it felt good to know that we had our independence.

On Friday, February 22nd, we started planning how the move was going to take place the next day, Saturday the 23rd, 2002. I arrive at Playing To win 9:30 that morning, and a few minutes after, Rich, (the director of HL) came in yelling "Let's get these boxes together." Needless to say, that got everything going. It took us about four hours but we got out every nook and cranny. From there, we divided our equipment into two groups.

One group went to the storage house and the rest went with the staff to Bloomberg News, our temporary home, on Park Avenue, at 59th Street (Midtown, Manhattan). We finished at about 6PM. My body was so tired, but I was at ease. Knowing that we were finally able to concentrate on the web site filled me with a positive outlook on HL's future.
