Destiny's Child .VS. En Vogue
By:

Every one knows about the two ultimate groups that changed the R & B world and broke all records. En Vogue and Destiny's Child both went through a lot to get where they are and where they were. En Vogue reined above all others in their field, but internal struggles broke them apart. It seems as if years later Destiny's Child is following in their footsteps.

Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy, former owners of Club Nouveau, founded en Vogue. Their original name was For You , but they switched to the classier En Vogue. Destiny's Child original name was GirlTyme and they started out as rappers. Matthew Knowles, one of the members father and the groups manager, looked in the book of Isaiah in the bible and found a scripture with Destiny's Child in it. He decided it was the perfect name for the group.

The original members of En Vogue were Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, Maxine Jones, and Dawn Robinson. Their image was sexy, stylish and, sophisticated.

Destiny's Child original members were Beyonce Knowles, LaTavia Roberson, Kelly Rowland, and LeToya Luckette. The idea for the group came about when Beyonce and LaTavia met at an audition and became friends. Kelly joined the group in 1992. After the group performed on Star Search, LeToya joined and completed Destiny's Child.

En Vogue's debut and first hit was "Hold On. A It reached #2 on the charts and helped their album go platinum. That hit song was followed by records like, My Loving", "Giving Him Something He Can Feel", and "Free Your Mind.

Destiny's Child debut single was "Killing Time" on the Men in Black Album, but their first top ten hit was "No No No (remix)" featuring Wyclef Jean. Their first number one record was "Bills Bills Bills.

After seven years, Dawn Robinson left En Vogue. Citing that they were having trouble getting along and Dawn couldn't take it anymore. Amanda Cole replaced her. Maxine left in 2003 due to internal differences.

Destiny's Child also had issues, but the group management caused s problems. Luckette and Roberson accused Matthew Knowles of favoring his daughter and niece, Beyonce and Kelly. It really blew up when "Say My Name" premiered with two new members. Roberson and Luckette had no intention of leaving the group. They tried to sue Knowles and Rowland but they wound up getting a lower settlement and weren't allowed to talk about each other publicly.

En Vogue tried to survive as a trio but the conflicts were still stirring. By 2003 Amanda Cole had left the group to pursue her solo career. She wasn't replaced until 2004 when the group added Rhonda Bennett.

Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin replaced Roberson and Luckette. After two singles and five months, Franklin also exited the group. Both groups tried to be a trio.

In February 2004, En Vogue released their latest album "Soul flower" which was in production for four years. Though they say it was a spirited album, it didn't get any airplay. They didn't even make a video for any of the singles.

Destiny's Child survived the best as a trio having soared to the top of the charts with each single. Unfortunately, they are again pursuing their solo careers and splitting for good. With Destiny's Child having a peaceful break-up and En Vogue just running out of fuel, these groups can't be no less alike.
