Daddy Yankee is known as a Reggaeton artist. His real name
is Raymond Ayala. He was born on February 3, 1977 in Rio
Piedras, Puerto Rico. He has two kids and a wife. Raymond
has been singing since he was thirteen years old. During
that time he’s gone through struggles like any other
rapper or Reggaeton artist has. His music is for the growing
genre, which are the main targets.
Raymond’s
career started as a DJ working with the famous DJ Playero
and became well known in Puerto Rico. In 1998 he recorded
the song “Posicion” with Alberto Style, which
appeared in the soundtrack of the movie, One Tough Cop.
Another one of his songs went on the Piece Maker album produced
by Tony Touch in 2000.
Raymond’s
first album, El Cartel that went Platinum was followed by
volume 2, El Cartel 2 that was released in 2001and also
reached Platinum in sales. Since then, Daddy Yankee has
made another album El Cangri.com that was released and well
received by the fans in 2002. This album features a duet
with Lito:”El Gran Robo”.
Daddy
Yankee has earned a nickname and title “King of Improvization”
by winning the Street Jam Reggae Award five years in a row.
His most recent album: “Homerun: Es Vol.1” was
released to the people in 2003. He also has some songs in
other albums such as the song “Cojela Que Va Sin Jockey”
which was released in the “Mas Flow” album by
Luny Tunes and Noriega.
Even
though Daddy Yankee is known as a Reggaeton singer he’s
also performed and recorded salsa and merengue partnered
with Grupo Mania on their album: ”The Dynasty”.
He’s also done a merengue concert with merengue star
Olga Tanon, and salsa star, Domingo Quinones.
Now
Raymond Ayala is considered being one of the best of Puerto
Rico’s Reggaeton artist.
