From
writer, director Gina-Prince Bythewood and producer and director Spike
Lee comes a new and innovative black film. Set against the background
of an all black suburban neighborhood in Southern California. "Love
and Basketball" dares to tell the story of two positive young black
children and their rise to the top and a love that just won't go away.
Monica played by Sanaa Lathan (The Best Man, The Wood) is a tough
young lady determined to become a Basketball player and full of a
her love for the game meets her love interest, next door neighbor,
and basketball rival, Qunicy played by Omar Epps ( Juice, The Wood).
Throughout
their childhood, school days, and college years Quincy and Monica
share their lives, love for the game, and a decision that will affect
their lives forever. Rounding out the movie are a host of incredibly
talented black actors including Debbie Morgan(Eve's Bayou, All my
Children), Alfre Woodward (Crooklyn, Miss Evers Boys) Dennis Haysbert
(Waiting to Exhale, Absolute Power) and Harry J. Lennix (Titus, Get
on the Bus). Brought to us by New Line Cinema the same people that
brought you Love Jones and Set It Off. This movie shows us that young
woman can be anything they want to be and that good black films can
be made.
