2003 AllStars
by Carlos Chavez

They are the best of the best. They are voted by the fans. They are the NBA All-Stars. The All-Star game will be hosted in Atlanta this year, which is home to the Atlanta Hawks. This has been a year were many records are being shatterd, and new stars are emerging. Sure its hard to predict whats goning to happen in the remainder of the season since it is still early. However many players are making a name for themselves this year. These players are some of the players that i believe deserve to make the All-Star squad. Here are my picks for the Eastern Conference All-Star starter:

Center: Ben Wallace: PPG: 6.7 RPG: 15.3 BPG: 2.82
Ben Wallace is one of the greatest defensive players this year. Ths year he has the stats and carrer number of blocks to prove it. He had 10 blocks in a game against Miami on November 20th. If that isn't impressive enough, this man also grabbed 24 boards against the top team in the leauge (Dallas) on November 24th. Ben wallace doesn't score much, however has great defense to back him up. He is my pick for starting center in the East.

Power Forward: Jermaine O'neal: PPG: 20.0 RPG: 10.4 BPG: 1.61
O'neal is also a great defensive player, who is really establishing a name for himself this season. He currently averages about a double-double every game. He is a great scorer who alos has great abiltiy under the glass. Jermaine currently has his team (Indiana Pacers) in the 2nd seed in the East. That is a suprise stat but O'neal is doing his thing this season.

Small Forward: Vince Carter: PPG 19.2 RPG: 3.7 APG: 2.6
Vince is being critizied big time this season. They are calling him the next Penny Hardaway. Meaning that Vince is a great player but is prone to injuries. These injuries are causing him and his team a major slump. However you have to give credit where credit is due. VInce is spectracular player when he's healthy. Sure this has been a bad season for him, however if he makes in time for the All-Star game I believe he will put on a show. Sure its been a dissapointing season, but Vince still leads all votes in the All-Star game. So not only is he my pick, hes eveyones pick to play. When healthy VC made a carrer high 51 points against Phoenix two seasons ago. His high for this season is 27 points. Hopefully Vince will come back to his own and steal the show again.

Shooting Guard: Tracy McGrady: PPG: 30.2 RPG: 6.1 APG: 4.4
T-mac is without a doubt on of the best players in the NBA. He leads the League in scoring with 30 points per game. On top of that He scored 47 points as a season high on November 11th. T-mac is a top young gun and possibly the best player in the East. He has a great arsenal of dunks, and will probably have a great show down in the Shooting Guard position this All-Star game. T-mac is best choice and the leading choice to start this years All-Star game.

Point Guard: Jason Kidd: PPG: 20.5 RPG: 5.9 APG: 8.8
Jason Kidd is one of the most exciting players to watch in the NBA. Who knew that he would come to the Nets, take them to first place and all the way to the finals. So far this season he is repeating that step. Only thing holding him back for being called the best player is an MVP and A Championship ring. No one in the NBA takes control of the game quite like Kidd does. He makes everyone around him look good. On top of that he has a great number of passes. He has a Season High 13 assist this season 3 times. On top of that he is scoring the most points this season than he ever has in his whole carrer. Jason Kidd isn't a human higlight reel like Kobe,T-mac, or VC but it doesn't make him a bad player. He cares more about winning than anything else. His heart and passion is why I give respect and is why I choose him as an All-Star.

Now these Are my Picks for the Western Conference All-Stars.

Center: Yao Ming: PPG: 13.13 BPG: 8.2 APG: 1.5
Amazing the things this rookie does. Just his first season and already being voted as an All-Star. For crying out loud, the man has 200,000 more votes then MVP Shaq. But He is one great player. Hes' proving that he deserved the 1st round pick. This could be start of a new "Ming Dynasty". He is giving Houston the help they needed. Whats better than 7'5'' man from China to go in score a great deal of points and a grab a great number of rebounds. What more could you ask for. In his rookie season he already has a carrer high 30 points. Yao will grow to be a great player, possibly the next Olajuwan in Houston.

Power Forward: Kevin Garnett: PPG: 21.8 RPG: 13.2 APG: 5.6
Possibly the greatest player at his posistion. How he doesn't lead the votes at his posision seems weird to me. KG, "The Kid", "Big Ticket", call him what you will this man has serious game. He also averages a great deal of Double-Doubles. KG is also a great passer, who averages about 5.6 assist. On top of that he is very exciting to watch. You just love to see when a teamate misses and KG comes from out of no where and throws it down. He is my pick for Power Foward.

Small Foward: Dirk Nowitzki: PPG: 22.5 RPG: 10.5 APG: 2.7
My favorite team and one of my favorite players. Dallas Mavericks Dirk is really establishing himself this year. He also has a great deal of double double. He is a 7 footer, which makes it impossible to block him or defend him. Has great height with a great shot. Dirk also has great rebounding abilty. What also makes this man Famous and at the same time infamous is his 3 point shooting ability. This sets him apart from most players at his position. He will be clutch down the stretch for the west.

Shooting Guard: Kobe Bryant: PPG 27.6 RPG: 7.6 APG: 7.1
The greatest youngest superstar in the NBA. Second in scoring with 27 a game. He was last years All-Star MVP. With the way he's playing this year, he is most likely to win it again. Kobe also has season most and carrer high 4 triple doubles. On top of that 3 rings. Even most suprising to most this season is his Record Breaking carrer high 9 straight 3 pointers made and a total 12 3 pointers made. A record he set January 7th 2003. He already started the season with a bang. His season high 46 points is only a few reason why he leads the All All-Stars in votes. He's only 24 and has done what most players haven't been able to do in their 15 year carrers. He is also a passing shooting guard. He has a avg. of 7.6 and a season high 14 assist 2 times. He is also a great Rebounder with 7.1 and 15 for a season high. He has great offense as well as defense. No reason why he shouldn't be leading votes.

Point Guard: Steve Nash: PPG: 18.6 RPG: 2.6 APG. 6.9
Another one of my favorite players. Nash is possibly the most underrated player in the leauge. Has great shooting ability, as well as passing. Has great hustle and makes spectacular plays. Doesn't have much athletic skills, but looks to be the most energy charged player on his team. He has a season high 30 points this season. Also a top 13 assist against Memphis on October 30. Nash holds the best free throw shooting percentage at a blazing .914. I feel Nash deserves a shot at the All-Star game. This will be his secon apperance there.

According to the votes these are players who might make this years All-Star Game:
East:
Centers: Dikembe Mutombo, Zydruna Illguaskas.
Forwards: Grant Hill, Antoine Walker, Kenyon Martin, Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
Gaurds: Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan, Baron Davis, Paul Pierce.
West:
Centers: Shaquille O'Neal, Vlade Divac.
Forwards: Tim Duncan, Chris Webber, Peja Stojakovic, Pau Gasol.
Guards: Steve Francis, Gary Payton, Michael Finley, Cuttino Mobley.
