A Future Legend?

by: Zach Mayer

A man named Dajuan Wagner, a basketball player at Camden High School, broke a few large records about three months ago and became New Jersey's career leading scorer. He also became only the 16th male ever to score one hundred points in a game.

We can clearly see that this young man has the potential to go pro. If he displays the ability to play like this now, at the start of his prime, we can only imagine what the future holds if he keeps it up. He is six foot two and two hundred pounds. Some would say he is a younger version of a professional player like Allen Iverson. Wagner—who averages 44 points a game and has 3,311 career points—also took Camden High to the 2000 State Championships, and the man is still only 18 years old.

A big question is: could this hype be a fluke? The talents of a lot of young athletes are blown out of proportion in their early years, and they fail to reach their potential later on. Though his achievements are great and there have been ball players to make it pro out of Jersey before, such as Shaquille O'Neal, who is currently playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. To pass players like Dajuan Wagner on the list of all-time leading scorers is definitely quite an accomplishment on Dajuan's part. We see here a great basketball player before us, a player who has the ability and potential to do whatever he wants with his career in basketball. Maybe he will end up being a first-round pick in the NBA draft five years from now—but maybe not.
