In the major musical production "The Lion King", all the dancing and movements seen in the show is and supervised by the Dance Captain. The Dance Captain is the one who provides the steps and makes sure that the movements made by the dancers and actors are the same as it was originally choreographed. The Dance Captain in "The Lion King" is Aubrey Lynch II, a former principal dancer with the Alvin Aily American Dance Theater. Mr. Lynch was busy during rehearsal, but came to talk with HarlemLive about his experience in the show.
Mr. Lynch first started out studying science in college when he was "bitten by the performing bug to dance." He eventually left school to be recruited by Alvin Ailey and danced with the company for three years. He then joined "The Lion King" production since it started and loves every minute of it.
Mr. Lynch job is challenging; making sure that all the dancers move in the exact same way as it was originally choreographed. It's a tough job, but for Mr. Lynch, it's rewarding. Not only to be in a major show as the Dance Captain, but also as a part of the ensemble dancing and singing in the show.
Aside from his work with "The Lion King", Mr. Lynch is also the owner and designer of a line of hand crocheted, one-of-a-kind wearable art called Aubrey Designs.
Mr. Lynch not only he choreographed the show but he also plays the role of the giraffe in the musical.
If you're in the Time Square area please try to see the Lion King because it's an interesting show. |
