Brooklyn's Own

by Regina Fraiser

If you’re looking for academics, we have one of the best schools in Brooklyn for that. If you’re looking for the best high school to college percentage, 80% of our high school grads go to college. If you’re looking for a school where students focus more on Prada and Gucci than sine and cosine, this is where you want to go. But let me tell you a secret. If you want the gold at the end of the rainbow, you’re going to have to go through 4 years of hell to get to it.

I think that the teachers are wasting their time on the students at this school. The teachers should focus their attention on the more positive students than the ones that don’t care about the education that they are receiving. The teachers are fine. It’s the students that I advise the parents about. I wouldn’t want to put my children in an environment that was overpopulated with students that show more of their “colors” than of the knowledge that they are receiving.

Don’t get me wrong. There has to be a reason for the high percentage of people that go to college, and when I figure that out, I'll be sure to update you on that information. I know that I am going to college because it is the right thing to do if I want to get anywhere in my life. Yet, by the way that the students act, you would question the exact reason they are there.
Take for example the upcoming election, not the Mayoral election but the Senior Class President election in my school. All this is for no reason. They don’t care about the fact that they can make a difference by being the senior class president. All this is is a popularity contest. That is why I am not taking part in it. Don’t come to me asking for a vote if you don’t know my name, and pass by me on a daily basis and look at me sideways in the hall, and act like the class clown during the time that I put in for an education and then expect me to vote for you. On top of all that, they’re running around school acting more immature than the incoming freshmen, and to think these are seniors the ones who will soon be the part of the population that will make the laws of our land.

All in all, if I had known that I really had a choice of what school to attend, Boys and Girls is not the school that I would have chosen. All BG is is an overpopulated school where students focus more on the clothes that you are wearing than the knowledge that they are receiving. That knowledge is being wasted on minds that don’t want to receive it, and to me,knowledge is a terrible thing to waste.
