HarlemUSA Rises on 125th

HarlemLive will continue to post pictures as progress is made on the construction of this commercial project that will change the area for several the next century.

On West 125th Street and Frederick Douglas Boulevard HarlemUSA had a ground breaking ceremony on the 27th of July. Hundreds of community residents, government officials, and neighboring shopkeepers were there to witness the ground breaking. The ground breaker pertained to building a mall. The mall will feature Old Navy, Disney Store, a nine-screen, 2,700 seat multiplex that will be operated by Magic Johnson Theaters, and also an indoor amusement park for children ages 2 to 12.

The ground breaker had performances from ARC Choir, Grammy award winner diva Mary J. Blige, Maya and Dionne Warwick.

The ground breaking also had some very special guests the children loved such as the Disney Characters Goofy, Mickey, and some other very interesting Characters.

"The residents of Harlem will now be able to enjoy the same shopping and entertainment amenities as residents throughout the rest of Manhattan," Rangel told guest and other well-wishers. The opening of the mall is expected to open Christmas of 1999 on West 125th Street and Frederick Douglas Boulevard.

The staff of Harlem Live was unable to go beyond police barriers therefore, we had to get most of the information from the Amsterdam News.
