The Rose among the Weeds

As you walk down the block, you can see the sarongs blowing in the air, bringing you closer. Then you come upon the doorway and a very pleasing chant hits your ears; at the same time something pleasant reaches your nose. This is the feel when you're greeted at the door & welcomed inside Progressive Unlimited, the community store located at 14 East 125th Street between Fifth & Madison Avenue.

 

The purpose for which Progressive Unlimited was formed was to serve as a cultural connection to the community. It is a retail specialty store that consists of original artistic creative hand crafts along with educational & informative literature.

 

 

Progressive Unlimited has been here to serve the community for 5 years. There are over 100 artist mostly local &endash; Rubin Gonzalez, Harlem Hero's, Carol Lee, Kuumba Ama, Tonya Dyce, Umume Umari, Cleaster Cotton, & a host of others.

Chink Pope, owner and operator of Progressive Unlimited says, "Progressive is about us, by us, for us, it is a collective of beautiful wonderful people with great God given talent. It (Progressive) is here to be a stepping stone to provide a kick-start for each & every one of them to be Progressive Unlimited. "

 

The store also does maintenance and upkeep of dreadlocks and natural hair. According to the motto of Progressive Unlimited, "We Have Everything from Head to Toe and Heart To Soul".
