L & T Donut Shop

By Jason Rodríguez

Gus Mihalios has been working in this restaurant for five years. The restaurant first started in 1987 when they were selling donuts in Queens. They found this store was empty and they took it over. He's happy working at L & T. Gus says he's been working in restaurants since he was 17 years old (that was about 20 years ago).

L & T Donut Shop has never had any accidents. They pay minimum wage. There are 8 regular workers. Four of them take care of the donuts - one bakes, another worker cuts the donuts and the other two sell donuts behind the counter. They have 1 cook, 1 grill man, another worker who makes sandwiches and there is a waiter for the counter. L & T Donut Shop also makes free deliveries. Gus has a good impression of the people coming to the restaurant. Some of them eat there every day and have become his friends.

The biggest order they ever had in the restaurant was for La Guardia. They made sandwiches, bagels, donuts and coffee for 125 people. Usually in one day they serve about 200 people, maybe more. Gus said a lot of people come to L&T because they serve good food quickly and with courtesy. The food they sell most is eggs for breakfast and at lunch time they sell many hamburgers and a lot of gyros.
