Dimitri's Nurseries, Inc.

by Jeannette

Dimitri Gatanas has been in the nursery business for 12 years. His grandfather started the business 42 years ago when they lived on East 117th Street and Pleasant Avenue before this neighborhood was called El Barrio. At first their business was a flower shop, but then it became a nursery. Besides plants Dimitri sells vegetebles, fruits, soil, planters and water fountains.

For Dimitri, the most difficult plants to grow are the African Violets and the most popular are the Impatiens. Dimitri sees all types of people buying in his nursery. His busiest time of year is spring. Luckily, he sells outdoor and indoor plants.

Dimitri's Nursery is located at 1992 Second Avenue between 102nd and 103rd Street in New York City
