Coney Island is one of Brooklyn’s most popular attractions. It has been and continues to be; especially now as the weather becomes increasingly warmer. Having existed for over seven decades, people young and old flock to the seaside amusement park, looking for frivolous fun and adventure. This year Coney Island’s most famous feature, the roller coaster, Cyclone, just celebrated its 75th Anniversary. After all there’s tons of great stuff to do at Coney Island.

Nathan’s, Hot Dog Stands, Burger Stands, and Icy Stands can still be found and few people get tired of its yellow-sanded beaches full of sun-tanning people or folks just splashing around in the water. Coney Island is also host to the annual Hot Dog Eating Contest and The Mermaid Parade, which boasts colorful floats and costumes.

A facility that’s close by, nearly always open and particularly busy during the summer time is the New York Aquarium. The Aquarium is an exciting place not only for children but for adults as well. One of its features is the dolphin show at the Aquatheater. Here the dolphins show off their talents and skills to a packed auditorium. Penguins, sea otters, sharks, seahorses, seals, a walrus, horseshoe crabs, sea stars and fish are just some of the many aquatic animals they have. Another program they have is called The Docent Program. Teens age 15 and up are trained to be qualified docents or volunteers at the Aquarium. They assist the personnel, answer questions, teach the visitors and run the touch pool which is where people can come and touch horseshoe crabs and sea stars while learning interesting facts about them. This, according to many visitors, is a very rewarding experience.
All in all Coney Island is a great place for relaxing, excitement and learning. Whatever your reason for going you will truly enjoy yourself.
