Al
Sharpton’s headquarters, "The National Action
Network" caught blaze Wednesday, January 22. The fire
occurred on 125th street and Madison Avenue and it was reported
at 8:30 in the morning. There were no casualties in the
fire and no one was injured. However, the building’s
second floor, which housed the network’s main meeting
room, known as the "House of Justice" was gutted.
When we found out about the incident at HarlemLive, we were
quite intrigued and decided to see for ourselves what happened.
We were curious about whether the loss of the building would
be pivotal in Sharpton’s political campaign. At the
scene, people were running around chaotically. Firemen and
police officers swarmed the surrounding area of the building
like bees. The firemen and policemen were entering and leaving
the building hastily trying to further the investigation
and find clues that would lead them to find a cause for
the fire.
They scavenged the building for clues like an archaeologist
in search for ancient dinosaur bones. Many news reporters
and
photographers from various media outlets were sprinting
rapidly to get the perfect picture of the building. According
to investigators, the cause of the fire was an electrical
issue. Policemen said that at the moment little is known
about the situation, andthought more would be known tomorrow
morning.
At HarlemLive we found it very interesting that this fire
occurred the day after Sharpton announced his Presidential
campaign.
Supporters outside were chanting the usual phrase, "No
Justice! No peace!"
