HarlemLive sent two reporters to a recent reading of the Frank Silvera's Writing Workshop. Here is what they had to say:by Matthew Martin I liked how the writer had a real bad spirit. I liked the way he let the characters express their fellings in real life terms. Every character in the play had a special thing about them.
The lady was fierce. The man was a good listener. Persey, aka "Pops" was very wise and DJ was a young (21) hot head with a gun. DJ was the most interesting character, a 90s kid who caught a bad rap from the police and was emotionally scarred as a child. That's why in a way, at the end of the play, it seemed cruel, but he might have done that baby a favor by killing him becasue the baby didn't have a father and had a bitter mother and might have had HIV. He just didn't want a kid to grow up like him (a psycho). But like I said earlier, the writer had lots of guts for doing writing as he did and I applaud him for that. I loved that play. There should be more like it.
