The Christmas Garden

The Christmas Garden Ms. Juliette Davis for the past two years has been decorating the St. Nicholas garden at Convent Ave. Even though this might seem like a huge task for just one person, she does it anyway because it doesn't only get her into the Christmas spirit but the community as well. I looked around the garden covered in Christmas lights of all colors white, blue, yellow and red. In the garden you will also find Santa's elves, reindeers and a house size Christmas tree covered with small ornaments. "The garden has a wonderful effect on the community. People say they can't believe how much the garden reminds them of home. It uplifts them"

But the garden wasn't always this beautiful, it used to be an abandoned gas station until 1987 it was decided by Juliette Davis and Ms.Louanna to make it into a garden. Soon after the gas tanks were removed. Now the garden is better than ever. Every year block parties, musical events, and sometimes even weddings are held here to get the community involved and fix up the neighborhood. She says, " I'm trying to get the community involved to decorate for other holidays such as Harvest celebration and Halloween for the children. What we're doing is getting our feet on the ground, the community enjoys it.

Ms. Davis tells me, "you should come in and pay me a visit during the summer or spring. We have the most flowers than anywhere else in Harlem some people call it the Oasis in Harlem.
