HarlemLIVE Staff

Over the past 28 years many valuable/notable members of the African American community have passed away. For the 28 days of Black History Month HarlemLIVE's staff will be presenting several people who've died each year.

Nell Carter

Born Nell Ruth Hardy on September 13th 1948, Nell Carter died January 23 from heart disease and diabetes. You may most remember her as the house keeper Nell Harper from the 80’s sitcom “Gimme a break!” Carter’s acting/singing career actually began with the musical “Ain’t misbehaving” in the late 70’s. She went on to take roles in Ryan’s hope, The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo, and the movies Match Game and To Tell the Truth. In the early 80’s Carter married George Krynicki but went on to divorce him some ten years later. Soon afterward she was married again to Roger Larocque, but their marriage only lasted a year. Carter leaves behind two adopted sons, Daniel and Joshua and a daughter Tracy.
