The Increase in the Price of Cigarettes

According to the American Cancer Society,cigarette smoking is by far the most important risk factor in the development of lung cancer. Despite this alarming fact, over 47 million Americans still choose to smoke. However, we think that percentage is going to change soon. Since the price of cigarettes have increased over two dollars from $5.25 to now about $7.50.

So we here at HL decided to hit the streets of the Harlem Community to hear what people had to say.

How do you feel about the price of cigarettes increasing by $2.00? In my opinion I don't feel anything about it because I don't smoke.


How do you think this situation will affect smokers? Many people will stop smoking, still many people won't care.

How far do you think smokers will go to get these highly priced cigarettes?
Many people will still buy them because they don't care. Nobody cares.

How do you feel about the price of cigarettes increasing by $2.00? I smoke. So I have a big problem with the fact that they are going up but I think it will help me stop smoking.


How do you think this situation will affect smokers? I think it will help a lot of people stop smoking because of the prices.

How far do you think smokers will go to get these highly priced cigarettes? If they want to smoke that bad they won't stop. But if they want to stop, the price increase will help them.

I feel they are going to find a way to buy them no matter what. When a pack of cigarettes was $5.00 the smokers should've stopped.

I think cigarettes are just like drugs and that they will get anything to get them.

I think it's not going to stop most people from smoking.

They may stop smoking for a while but they will eventually start again.

I have no real comments because I feel that there are so many ways to get money for cigarettes.
