Harlem Students Receive Award from King

 

HarlemLive recently journeyed to Sweden and took 1st place in the category of culture and media in the international Global Bangeman Challenge. They were given the award by King of Sweden in the Nobel Hall in Stockholm on Wednesday June 9th. The awards ceremony attracted hundreds of guests and just as many journalists from around the world.

 

The Staff members that went to Sweden include; Osakwe Beale, 17, Angel Colon, 15, Khalid Muhammed, 16, and Jerlena Rhodes, 16. The Director and founder of HarlemLive, Richard Calton, accompanied the teens.

 

A large majority of the 18 recipients of the Global Bangeman Challenge were from Europe, three from Central and Latin America, three from Oceania, one each from the countries of Egypt and Bangladesh, and four from the United States.

 

These awards recognized the successful use of information and technology. Winners were chosen from 11 categories ranging from health and community care to improving traffic and transport.

 

HarlemLive has also received awards from such institutions as The Smithsonian and Heavens Angels.

 

HarlemLive, an on-line internet publication run by the youth of the community, serves as a valuable tool networking parents, students, and others in Harlem and around the world. HarlemLive has received recognition from such publications as; The New York Times, The Daily News, Newsweek, Yahoo, Computer World and many others.
