Ever
known someone that was very determined, devoted, and had a lot of heart
and spirit about something they love and enjoy doing. Well let me tell
you about someone who has all of these qualities and more. Her name
is Teresa Weatherspoon who plays professional basketball for the New
York Liberty. She is the starting point guard for the New York Liberty
and has been playing for the Liberty since its inagaural season in 1997.
She currently leads the team in assists with 6.4 per game. She is the
first WNBA player to reach 1,000 assists in her career and has been
named the WNBA Defensive Player of the year in 1997 and 1998.
When
you walk into the Garden, as they are introducing the team, the fans
are screaming and shouting. All you hear from the man on the loud speaker
is From Louisiana Tech, 5`8, 161lbs, number 11, co captain,
Teresaaaaaaaaaaa Weatherspoooon!!! The fans get louder because
she is the most energized and exciting player on the team and always
makes sure the fans are into the game too. She may not be the leading
scorer on the team and her statistics may not often jump out off the
page because you really have to see her in action to appreciate her
game. She may do a no-look pass, do a little stutter step, catch your
attention with a few head fakes, and then execute a few spin moves to
get to the basket. When she plays defense she gets in the opposing teams
face to force them into making carless mistakes. You also can find her
hustling and diving for every loose ball that comes her way.You may
see her jumping on top of the scorers table or waving her hands
in the air to get the fans pumped up and get louder. She brings a lot
of energy and enthusiasm to the game, her teammates, and her fans. She
is a great role model to her teamates, people of all ages, and even
players from other teams. Teresa Weatherspoon is one of the most exciting
players in the WNBA and will continue to be when she is ready to call
it quits.
