Musiq Soulchild Aijuswanaseing UNI/DefJam/DefSoul Nobody has returned the soul of music like this man. With the word literally in his last name there is no wonder this man is blowing up. Musiq Soulchild has simply one of the best R&B Albums of the year. He is simply one of the best acts off of Def Jam's new label venture Def Soul. His musical debut, Aijuswanaseing (pronounced-I Just Wanna Sing) is a gem in a year of nothing special music. His flavor helps his fans to relate his brand of new school love over orginal beats. Helping him win his audience over with such hits like the summer hit "Just Friends" (Sunny), one of the albums only ballads and a big billboard hit "Love", and last but not least my personal favorite "Girl Next Door" (feaurting Ayana of the Aires). Point blank this brother from the city of brotherly love sure can sing and brings unique arrangement of songs on his album to prove that he can do just that. Musiq's album is sure to satisfy any soul lover's hunger for new and innovatie artist singing aabout love. India.Arie Acoustic Soul (Motown) India Aire's beautiful ablum debut, Acoustic Soul, is simply put the bomb. Filled with a rich array of singer-songwriter tracks and flavorful hooks. One is sure be to satified with this incredible piece of work from this first time artist. Already winning the hearts of women everywhere with debut single "Video", Aire has very little to prove in the way of artistic intergrity or talent. The song which promotes self love and confiedence was one of the top Billboard Chart Heatseekers and favorite on the airwaves. Her newsest single "Brown Skin" seems to following the path of her career straight to the top. The album itself is mixture of jazz, funk, hip-hop, and of course soul music. As far as I am concerned India Aire has come out in a time when we are in desperate need of music with a real message or atleast ust good music. In a era when the singer-songwriter is not as celebrated as a commerical artist. It's good to see Aire out there with her guatir bringing back the combation with such gusto. India Aire is a much needed saving grace. Jill Scott Who Is Jill Scott? Sony/Epic Just to say the name Jill Scott evokes smiles on music lovers everywhere. Scott is proabably the best artist to come out in a long time. Gaining fans quickly she is no doubt the new voice for a generation of young women. Her ablum is nothing short of brillant and who would expect less of this Philly Native and protegee of The Roots. Debuting with one of the most impressive and personal ablums to date Who is Jill Scott?, She is defintely her to stay. Scott has managed in over a year to become a favorite people who didn't even care for soul or R&B music. Never attemping to become a cross-over artits she has done it without even trying. Her album is filled with a incredible mixture of jazz, hip-hop, soul, and spoken work. Yes, Spoken word, Jill is also a poet and damn good one at that. Just listening to her any lyrics that she has written makes you wish you wrote them. With sonsg like radio favorite " A Long Walk" and jazzy spoken words like "Excusively" it's no wonder she is such a hit. In an music industry that often suffers from overproduction and commericalism. Who Is Jill Scott? is a refreshingly honest release from a singer-songwriter with a voice that needs to be heard. Her songs not only speak to her generation but one's before and those to come. Heart-break, Passsion, and Love are universal themes that everyone can relate to and this albums conveys all of them. If you don't have this ablum you should get it or at least borrow a copy of it. However, if the person you borrow it from is just like me they probably won't want to part with it. |
