Jane
Kaczmerek is the actor behind the mom character on Malcolm in the Middle.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Yale with a
drama degree. Since then she has added numerous credits to her name.
Kaczmerek have made appearances on such TV shows as The Practice, Frasier,
Touched by an Angel and Party of Five. Her movie career has also taken
off, with roles in Pleasantville and D. O. A. Aside from her acting
career she is married to actor Brad Whitford, who plays one of the lead
roles on The West Wing and has a daughter named Frances.
On the hit TV show, Malcolm in the Middle, she plays a character that
is hard to find on television today. She plays the ultimate mom, Lois,
who has authority over everyone in the house. Lois seems to be the sole
person in the family who has their head on straight and the main one
who holds everything together. The character has a full day taking care
of her four reckless sons, one who happens to be a genus, and her husband,
Hal, who seems not to be in his right mind 100 percent of the time.
The boys, Malcolm, Reese, Francis and Dewie, are constantly getting
themselves into trouble and Lois is always there to scream and throw
punishments around. Her most extreme punishment to date was sending
Francis, the oldest, to military school. However she is not a sit at
home mom despite all the trouble her four sons bring her. She also works
at a local grocery store and bring in much of the family's income, as
seen on one episode where she gets fired from her job, but gets it back
in the end.
Jane Kaczmerek plays a character that needs to be seen on television
shows more often. A woman who is the figure of her home that is considered
in charged and completely in control. The only problem with her character
is that she at times takes her authority to higher than normal heights,
which makes her not seem human at times. There were a few episodes where
she was shown sick and one where she was hurt by the gifts given to
her by her family on her birthday. However, Lois would be a better character
if she had a softer side that was brought out sometimes, in order to
make her seem more human.
