"The crime of cohabitation or sexual commerce between persons related within the degrees wherein marriage is prohibited by law."

The exact relationship stated in the definition varies depending on laws applied. For example, section 255.25 of the Penal Laws provides: ppp Incest. A person is guilty of incest when he or she marries or engages in sexual intercourse or deviate sexual intercourse with a person whom he or she knows to be related to him or her, either legitimately or out of wedlock, as an ancestor, descendant, brother or sister of either the whole or the half blood, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece. Incest is a class E felony. ppp Incest dates all the way back to biblical times. Even then it was forbidden but was practiced. So the question that is most asked: "Is it right or wrong?" The answer can be suggested but in the end it's you who decides whether it's something you except.

Most biblical scholars ask, "Where did Cain get his wife?" And most of the time the answer is he married his sister. The Bible forbids incest but you can clearly see where in some cases its practiced frequently.

For instance, in the book of Genesis, chapter 29 evidence is proved of in a blatant example of incest:

When Jacob saw Rachel daughter of Laban, his mother's brother, and Laban's sheep, he went over and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well and watered his uncle's sheep. Then Jacob kissed Rachel and began to weep aloud. He had told Rachel that he was relative of her father and son of Rebekah. So she ran and told her father. Now Laban had two daughters; and the name of the older was Leah, and the name of her younger was Rachel. Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel was lovely in form, and beautiful. Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, "I'll work for you for seven years in return for your younger daughter Rachel. (Genesis 29:10-11,16-18)

To make a long story short, Jacob ended up marrying both his first cousins Rachel and Leah. ppp In the Inca tribe there was a rule that stated that no one should marry his sister or his mother, or first cousin, or his aunt, or his niece, or his kinswoman, nor godmother of his child, under penalty of being punished and having his eyes pulled out. Only the chief Inca was allowed to be married to his carnal sister.

In the case of the Inca rulers, their main prerogative was to marry sisters. But in the Ptolemies they married their sisters in order to maintain the integrity of material wealth and rights, and with Cleopatra as an offspring, it is obvious that their experiments did not fail. Cleopatra represented a seventh generation offspring of brother-sister marriages.

Experiences taught these tribes that are children of brother-sister marriages were less healthy than the children of those who married more distant relatives. In most cases, the relationship considered ideal was the marriage of cousins, a practice universal among ancient people.

Medical practitioners have sad that children of incest relationships have an increased risk of being affected by recessive conditions. In 1958,13 cases of incest (six father-daughters and seven brother-sisters) were reported and in 1965 and update was conducted when the children were four to six years old.

These of these children are dead: one at 15 months of cystic fibrosis of the pancreas, confirmed at necropsy; another at 21 months of progressive cerebral degeneration with blindness an done at seven years, 11 months of Fallot's Tetralogy. One child was severely abnormal, and was considered non-testable at four years, nine months, when she had a vocabulary of only a few words. Four children were mentally abnormal. The IQ's of three were 59, 65, and 76. The remaining five children are normal.

Incest today is clearly detrimental in a very large percentage of cases; the risks of irregular offspring being so high that some countries legislate against the marriage of brother and sisters. If more children are results of Incest relationships then we as human beings will inevitably become more messed up.
