Lee-Ana Correa
Journalist/Reporter

Hey Everyone! My name is Lee-Ana Correa. I am 17 years old. I currently attend Bayard Rustin Educational Complex. I enjoy many things like dancing, reading and cooking, although my all time favorite hobby is writing. Being that I am a shy and quiet person, I use writing to express myself. It not only helps me to get things off my chest but it also gives me a chance to reach out to people.
To be a journalist, in my opinion, is to have charisma, determination, and creativity. Journalist must be familiar with current events in their field of interest (i.e. music, politics, etc.). They must research their topic in order to gain a vast knowledge for interview purposes and general information in the article. In many cases they will travel to new places and interview strangers. The journalists must be well prepared with interview questions a head of time. Although there may be instances when they might be put under pressure and forced to make up questions as they go along. When speaking with people out side of HarlemLive you are required to properly represent yourself, not only as a mature and proficient teenager but also as a positive member of Harlem Live. This is crucial because it can make or break your career as a journalist. Journalism is a very good way to express yourself. It allows you to reach out to a larger audience. It gives the youth a voice which is very important because not many people are willing to give us that. Through journalism the youth is able to show that despite all the generalizations and stereo types about teenagers, we are able to work productively and create something as great as the HarlemLive website. It is also a good way to meet new people and gain resources which you can greatly benefit from in the future.
As a journalist at HarlemLive, I will give 110% to every article that I cover. I will also try to write about things which will not only interest me but interest the readers as well. I think it is important as a member of HarlemLive to introduce the program to new people, in order to expand our fan base. This program can be very helpful to the youth, as long as they are willing to take advantage of the many opportunities which HarlemLive present. I will contribute to HarlemLive by making sure that my work is always done on time and on point. I will also find ways to go beyond and above the expectations to help not only myself but also my Team. I can contribute to the program by being a team player, which means not only making sure my work is done but also helping my team mates to assure that our work as a team is done.
