Jennifer Hyman: Editor/ Political Editor | |
My Name is Jennifer
Hyman. I was born Manhattan on September 10th, 1987, I attend the Beacon
High school were I will be entering my senior year fall of 2004. Beacon
is an alternative high school, meaning that it is supposed to disregard
the regents and most forms of standardized testing. But that’s only
the ideal and NY State is pressuring Beacon to become an average public
school. I have very recently become an editor for HarlemLive, but I will continue to dedicate myself to reporting. My interests are philosophy, writing and politics.
I think going to Beacon is what spurred my interest in them. When I attend
college, I’d like to major in one of the three. Outside of school,
I work at Peace Action of New York State. Peace Action is a very strong,
idealistic grassroots organization that is fighting to stop war and nuclear
proliferation in the US. I’ve been working at Peace Action for two
years, and I’m very proud to work with the people at there and to
be affiliated with such an organization. I've also worked with United
for Peace and Justice, which is also a fantastic organization dedicated
to activism. Now that I’ve gotten the serious stuff out of the way, I enjoy watching television as well as playing some not so conventional sports. My favorite television shows are Seinfeld and The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. And as much as I despise MTV, I’m inexplicably drawn to it. My favorite sports are Fencing and Ultimate Frisbee. Although Fencing doesn’t resemble the kind of sword fighting in James Bond Die Another Day, it’s really fun. It may not be too interesting to watch, but it’s fun to participate in. Although I don’t get to play Ultimate Frisbee as much as I’d like to it’s another great sport. Ultimate’s probably a combination of soccer and football, except of course with a frisbee. Basically, all these little idiosyncrasies make up Jennifer Hyman |
