That's Me!

So you say you want to enter my world, is that right? You want me to create a mental image of myself so you can get to know me a little better. By the time you are finish reading this essay you want to feel like you have spent a day with me. I can't promise that but I can guarantee by the time you finish reading you're going to wish you were able to spend the day with me.

Born and raised in the projects, I am the baby of five children. You're probably thinking the last born, I must be spoiled. Well you can consider yourself wrong! Actually I am very far from being spoiled. My mother is very ill since I am the only child in the house, I have taken over the role of caretaker. I cook, clean, do homework, and manage to work after school. Some might say that's a lot to do but for me that's part of my every day life. It's not problem!

Toni MorrissonGrowing up with four older brothers and sisters was actually fun because there was always a full house. However, when it came to money, clothes, toys I wished I were the only child. Since I am the smallest I was always given hand-me-downs. But, now I work for what I want, so that problem has disappeared.

Enough about my family life. What would you like me to write about next? S if you have a choice. I am going to describe my personality, which extremely hard to do. I am considered by many people to be the sun. Why? There is a triple meaning behind that comparison. Often I brighten up other peoples days and rarely do I burn them with my rays. Most of all I crave attention and want everyone to rotate around me. I enjoy making people laugh and smile because that is what makes me happy. I guess it is safe to say that "I am an entertainer and the world is my stage." When given the opportunity I want an audience yearning for what I am about to do next. I tend to try to steal the spotlight from others. You're probably asking what do I do in front of my Ebony & Friendsaudience? Honestly I really don't have any special talent like singing, dancing, or being a comedian. However that does not stop me from doing more things. Over time I notice that because I can't do those things and still try to, it draws more people to focus on me and laugh. I guess not being perfect comes in handy when you're in show business.

I'm sorry...I did not mention my hobbies. Well for many past years they included collecting football, baseball and basketball cards. But as my age increased, my interests in collecting sports cards decreased. So now I collect stamps. I have small collection of 119 unused stamps and 205 used stamps. To me stamps stamps portray the interests of the decade. I've been collecting stamps for several years now and I am just waiting for the day when they will be of some value.

My honest recent interest is singing. As I mentioned before I really have'nt any talent in this area. In hopes of becoming famous I record my voice and distribute the tapes to people, but they laugh at my efforts. They'll regret it when I am singing in Las Vegas!

So now you want to know what I do for extra curricula activities? Well when you have a sick parent at home and work most people would say those are your activities. But, not me!!! I try not to let my mother's illness get to me so I do a lot of different things with my time. Like other people, on weekends I would enjoy catching up on sleep. But don't you think that is a little boring? You have to understand I am very spontaneous person. I'm " the get up and go" type; being home irritates me. Rather than stay home on the weekends, some Saturdays I feed the homeless in local fire stations. Additionally I like to volunteer for activities around the city. I participated and raised money for the "walk for underage Drinking" and I was able to coordinate and volunteer for New York Cares Day. Recently I signed up to be a big sister for younger children. Did I mention that I was on my school's gymnastic team and have high grades? Well, surprise, I do!

When I am a lone, which is not often, I like to take long walks, or ride my bike. These things often relax my mind and help me think about my future. My goals in life are to go to college and major in history and minor in secondary education. I plan to attend a University out of sate. "Which one" you ask? Well my first choice is Oxford University and my second choice is the University of Maine. After I finish college I plan to move my mother and self out of the projects and into the suburbs. I want to become a High school teacher so I can encourage young students like myself to achieve their goals despite financial hardships, race, or fear.

Guess what? Time is up. My essay is complete. Now that you have finished reading, What is your perspective on my reality?
