A Love Bird's Song

by Christophe Palmer

A Love Bird's Story

My love is the Nightingale
Her feathers as brown as the Earth
She may be shy, but she can be outgoing and outspoken
I love the Nightingale’s beautiful song even though it’s so heartbroken

I am the Robin
I am the peaceful adventurer, a lover and nurturer

I use to flock with the Mockingbirds
until I heard the bittersweet words of her song
I felt I no longer needed to fly with the Mockingbirds
who did not’t care for me
I see the Mockingbirds are all the same
and they don’t care for anyone else
I told the Nightingale and she was shocked
to find someone liked her for herself
If me and the Nightingale were together we’d live so happily
But all the Mockingbirds did not agree

I the Robin sing a song
for the Nightingale “cheerily, cheerily,cheerily”
Even though the Nightingale must say no
I can tell she wants to be with me

Now the time is passing and the icy season isn't far away
Will me and the Nightingale be able to
share our songs again someday?
Will we ever stare into each others shy eyes together?
Will we ever be companions and fly the skies together?

I told her if we were together
she would no longer need to sing her melancholy rhyme
Then she replied “but we migrate
to different places in the winter time”
I said “we can go together
as one bird, one feather,
one pair of wings together”

I could’not believe my eyes as she spread her wings to fly
From afar we sang our love song in great harmony
until we were no longer apart
We became Lovebirds, we survived
flying on one pair of wings, one heart

Dedicated to Tirza a.k.a. Sweet-T, my Nightingale Z
