Chainless Prisoner

by Katerina Vorotova

She committed a crime
Punishable by law
She sits in a gray, ugly prison
Which she soon will be calling 'home'.

It's quiet outside,
She can hear kids yelling no more -
Her only joy has died away
With everything else killed by war.

Some inhabitants have left the town
Some are lying around dead.
What caused the severe destruction
It soon will drive her mad.

The only survivor, imprisoned,
Yet left with the key to the door
Won't leave her gray, ugly prison
Which she soon will be calling 'home'.
