The Masses

by: Katerina Vorotova

Teeth chattering
Back muscles tensed
Hands stuffed in pockets
Searching for small warmth.

Bodies packed together
Trapped, not moving
But all united and not read to leave yet
We stayed and chanted for the cause

Blocking traffic of New York City
Breaking law.
Police with their intimidating looks
Masks down, clenching their clubs and guns
Stand ready to attack.

It’s peaceful, as peaceful a protest can be
Peace Now!
Modern day hippies beat on buckets
And carry slogans and posters.
I feel like I’m back in the 60’s.
College students who still think
They can change something.

But the war is on, nonetheless.
