Ludacris:
The Red Light District

Def Jam
15-0
“Two Miles An Hour”
PARL

I read somewhere last week that Ludacris' Red Light District was one of the best rap albums of 2004, but then again they also said that Nelly offered two of the biggest disappointments and Eminem had a phenomenal year. Nonetheless that made me realize that rap is truly at a loss. Ludacris' album is far from bad but it's just as far from great. It sounds uncreative and like not much thought was put into it. It's full of catchy verses and hooks but Blue Berry Yum Yum and Get Back are more about the beat than about the words. Although the good to bad ratio is perfect on this album it is very deceiving. I found it incredibly hard to play this album straight through without getting bored or losing focus. Only a couple of tracks really stick out as hits on Red Light District. Once again the album is not bad, it's just boring and compared to other Ludacris albums it could be better.
