Street's Disciple

"Moment of Silence"
PARL 1/2

After a long wait the new Nas album is finally here, and Nas put's it down on the double album, Street's Disciple. This is the hottest Nas album since, well since God's Son. The album features 23 tracks including Thief's Theme, the first single which was originally released almost a year before the album was released. Street's Disciple also features Bridging The Gap featuring Olu Dara and Virgo featuring Ludacris and Dougie Fresh. The album sounds like a mixture of different vintage Nas albums, he returns with his uplifting the people records with tracks like These Are Our Heroes. Nas also has records where he tells a story as with the Unauthorized Biography of Rakim, and Serious Story. In the spirit of Oochie Wally he even has a couple of freaky escapades like Remembering The Times. The album doesn’t offer too many special guest appearances, Busta Rhymes does help out on a hook and Kelis does a few choruses herself. The best guest performances come from two rappers I've never heard of-Quan and Scarlett, who provide some of the best verses on the album and on the albums two best tracks. If this album was just the first disc it would have been a perfect record but on the second disc Nas gets all mushy with a skit from Kelis, a song about his past relationships and a song about marriage. The album takes a temporary dip on disc two but it's not enough to take away the many high points.
