In the year 2000, which is yet to be finished, some artist have won Grammy Awards and other awards for their music and how their music was put together. There are albums which were highly anticipated, however failed in sales. This is an album review of the albums that have been released in the year 2000 and that everyone should have.
Ratings: : A Great Album : A Hot Album It's all right Could Have Done Better : Totally Trash!!!!
Artist: Drag-On Album Title: Opposite of H2O Production: Swizz Beatz, P.K. Killa & DJ Shok. Label: Ruff Ryders Entertainment/Interscope Records
Opposite of H20 is one of those albums that everyone waits for and when it's released people are disappointed. I was one of those people, who after purchase the album, was upset. It's a good album, but it could have been better. Dragon is one the best young rappers, but he should have been given more time to work on the album. One thing I don't like about the Ruff Ryders' label, is that they do not use any other producers except for their own. There are other producers besides Swizz Beats and the Ruff Ryder Producers. The reason I give this album three cds is because the beats are hot but there should have been less skits.
Artist: Rah Digga Album Title: Dirty Harriet Production: Busta Ryhmes and others. Label: Flipmode Entertainment/Elektra Records Rah Digga is one those artist they call "underground". Yet still people are feeling the first lady of Flipmode. After her premier on the Flipmode album people have been waiting for her to come out with a solo joint (I know I have). Surprisingly it's production is hot. Although Flipmode is not known for it's production, Rah Digga did a good job on producing this album. I gave this album 4 CDs is because it impressed me and it's production is hot. Also, Rah Digga is not like other female artist: she doesn't rap about the things that other female artist rap about (she has a different style). Some even say that she's better than some male artists.
Artist: Dr. Dre Album Title: The Chronic Production: Dr. Dre Label: Aftermath/Interscope Records
It's been a long time since Dr. Dre has released an album that compared to the his first album, "The Chronic". He took time off to release his new, Grammy winning artist, Eminem, and to rejoin with fellow artists, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Kurupt and others. This album is definitely one to remember! I first liked Dr. Dre when he produced "The Firm Album," by Foxy Brown, Nas, AZ and Nature, and I've always liked him as a producer. Now with the help of his newly released artist, he has become one of the greatest producers in the game.
Artist: Ice Cube Album Title: War & Peace Vol.2(The Peace Disc) Production: Ice Cube Label: LenchMob Production/Priority Records
I was so surprise to hear this new album from Ice Cube. Unlike other artist, his album starts off with the hot track, "Hello," featuring Dr. Dre and MC Ren. I liked that track because it showed that he's not like other artist. This album has a number of party joints like, "You Can Do It," featuring Ms. Toi and Mac 10, who is also featured on the "Next Friday" soundtrack. I didn't expect Ice Cube's album to be trash, but I was surprised that at 30, he still spits ryhmes as if he was a new, young artist. Since his album, "War & Peace Vol.1(The War Disc)," went platinum (platinum means that one million or more albums have been sold) I assumed that his next album would be just as hot. That was not the only Ice Cube album that went platinum, his other album "Death Certificate," which was released on Halloween went platinum If you have not heard a good West coast album since Dr. Dre's "The Chronic 2001," then you need to treat yourself to this album and just smile cause you done yourself good.
Artist: Beanie Sigel Album Title: The Truth Production: Various Producers. Label: Roc-A-Fella Records/Def Jam Records
Although Beanie Sigel's production was trash, I gave his album 3 CDs because he has a different style. In New York "The Truth" was the most anticipated album of the year. After his release date was pushed back to March (it was originally supposed to be released in March '99). Beanie Sigel has a way of manipulating to make them rhyme. I hope, for his next album, he will get better producers and improve his style. Much like everyone else, I was looking forward to hearing the "Beanie Mac's" album. With featured artist such as, Memphis Bleek, Jay-Z, Amil, Scarface |
