Central Park's Youth Initative Program

story and photos by Kamal Muhammad

From rock climbing to dance, the Central Park's Youth Initiative Program is a afternoon program that I wouldn't mine going to. This 3 till 6 program is filled with young teens from around New York City. This program is run by a young lady named Heather. Heather is happy with what she have accomplished and plan on continuing this program next year for any new comers that want to come.

Teachers of this program also think that this program is good for several reasons. They think that this program get the kids more open, creative, and that the program will keep the kids off the street. Not only does the teacher think this but the kids also think the same thing. The teens at this program are neighborly and are not afraid to try new things and meet new people. The kids there have a lot of fun at this program.

So what do they do at this program? Well they dance, do drama, martial arts, wall climbing, basketball, and other kinds of activities. Right now they are getting ideas from the kids attending their program to paint a mural. Besides just letting the adults making the activities and making the young teens doing the activities, the teacher let the kids decided whether the activities are good and decided whether they should do it or not. This program is not just a program where you need to go to everyday. If you don't like the program then you don't have to come back.

Well as I end this article I would like to let you know that I think this program is a very good program for young teens to join. If you like to play basketball or like to go wall climbing then this is the program to join. Well I still think that you are wonder one thing, where is it? Well the program is at 97th street in Central Park. So you can go and check out this program now.
