Lady at computer If you visit 2013 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd, you will find an institution that provides the opportunity to gain computer skills necessary for today's society. Founded in 1998 by Jericho projects executive board, Jericho is a great learning center for those who seek knowledge of modern day technology. According to Jericho, Harlem's population has a disadvantage when it comes to computers, so the institution is located in Harlem to help individuals become computer literate. Although there are no other locations at this time, the institution has future plans of expanding to other urban cities.

front of buildingJericho is equipped with a mentoring program that provides direction for students who are interested in being exposed to the information highway. Mentors take students on field trips to places such as the Planetarium, Downey Park, Police Museum, and horseback riding in order to develop relationships with students.. The mentoring program is free of charge and helpful to those interested in expanding their knowledge of technology.

Mentor Khadijaha Seed is the acting manager at Jericho and has been with the institution since its birth in 1998. At this time, Jericho is a single computer lab but Seed feels that hard work and dedication will bring forth the opportunity to expand. With an ultimate objective to educate individuals about computers, students of the institution utilize the resources free of charge and have access to technology designed for higher learning. Due to Jericho's location, Seed feels that the learning center has the ability to reach many citizens of the community. "Location guarantees success, based on the amount of computer literate's there are when each person leaves Jericho. The institution want's to make sure that students are comfortable, literate and confident in using the computer. Also, to reduce intimidation of computers" said Seed.

Student Cynthia Lewis has been with the institution for five month's and feels that the institution is an excellent place to gain knowledge about computers. "People donšt come in and take advantage" said Cynthia.

Lastly, we spoke to Christopher Spicer who is one of the children involved in the mentor program. Spicer is 12 years of age and learned how to use the Internet at the institution. In addition, Spicer has developed social skills from interacting with the other individuals at Jericho, and feels that there is a place for everyone at Jericho.

Jericho encourages the people of the community to become members of the learning center regardless of age or educational background.
