Homosexuality Exposed
by:Kevin Benoit

How old are you? 23
Where are you from? New Hampshire
How long have you been a homosexual? all my life
Have you ever been in a heterosexual relationship? no
Describe your sexual preference in your own words. I prefer intelligent witty and charming men.
When you meet people what is more important, letting them know you are gay or letting them know about your personality? Letting them know about my personality.
How does your sexual preference affect your professional life? So far it hasn't, but I've just started my professional life. My understanding is that unmarried men face a glass ceiling of sorts. There is a social mistrust against unmarried men, especially once they've passed the age of 30.
NYC can be very critical of people what is it like being gay in this city? It is easier to be gay here than it is anywhere else in this country, with the possible exception of San Francisco.
Are you involved in a relationship right now? No.
Are you planning on getting married ever? Perhaps. I feel I am a little young right now, but I have known men with whom I have felt I could share the rest of my life.
What do you think about the laws and stuff in NY that try to prevent gay marriages? I think that the anti-gay lobby is in a similar position to the anti-integrationists in the South during the 1950s and 1960s.
Whats all that stuff about domestic partnerships and how does that affect the future of homosexuality? Some would argue that civil marriage is an anachronistic legal constructs, but if the government extends certain rights and privileges to pair-bonded heterosexual couples it is completely discriminatory to deny those rights and privileges to other pair bonded couples based on the biological sex of each half of the couple.
What is a common misconception about homosexuals? That they are all very fashionable, and trendy.
Where do you see homosexuals in general in ten years? I think that society will be more accepting of them. Just as racism and anti-semitism have been declining in the past 50 years, homophobia will decline in the coming decades.
A lot of movies have been discussing the topic of homosexuality lately if you were to speak to a room full of homophobes right now what message would you want to get across? I have felt attraction to men for as long as I can remember (since I was 4 years old) even before I knew that homosexuality existed. I did not know what those feelings were, and I did not know that it was possible for a man to be erotically attracted to other men. I did know that those feelings were taboo, and that I shouldn't share them with anyone else. It is a failure of society that homosexuality is hidden from children, and this failure causes much anguish and pain in those of us who are born gay.
