Today we woke up relatively early to go to the Egyptian museum. I was anxious to go because I've heard so much about it. What I mean is that at some of the tombs and even the pyramids we visited, they've told us that materials were taken from the original site and put into the museum.

For instance when we went to visit Giza, there was a block of stone with two holes in it. If you looked in you'd see a statue of a pharoah with his eyes aligned to the holes in the stone. The statue there was not the original one. The real one was in the museum.

I was also excited because I enjoy museums to a certain extent. A museum filled with original Egyptian artifacts, the work of my ancestors, just thrills me to death. Any way, the museum was Awesome!

I saw Tutankmun or King Tut. I saw his beautiful headdress I think, and his funeral objects. It was great. I really wanted to take a picture of it, because it was so absolutely beautiful. It was pure gold, with an incredibly detailed face. The decorations were fine and very detailed and brightly colored.

I didn't actually get a chance to take a picture of the mask or headdress with my camera. I took two photos with Brandon's camera. He told me that when he developed it he would give me one. I couldn't use my own camera because it had a flash and you can't use flash photography in the museum. It was explained to me that the flash erodes the coloring on the artifacts. I could have taken a picture, but I would have risked getting my camera taken away.

Today, I was also awed by our tour guide. He had a wealth of information and he knew exactly where the most interesting places in the museum were. He didn't try to take us to see everything, he only showed us specific things that were relevant. He didn't dwell too much on certain things and he answered questions as best as he could. His English was good enough that I could follow his speech. There were times when I asked him a question and he couldn't understand me. The good thing was that he actually tried to understand what I was trying to ask.

The earlier part of the day ended pretty well. I felt that I'd absorbed a lot of information at the museum. There was one last thing about the museum that stuck in my mind. After I was completely astounded by the mummification process and the ingenuity of my African ancestors, I saw that there were Greeks who got mummified. That showed me that there was at least one instance where Europeans showed respect and reverence for an African achievement. They respected the ancient Egyptians so much they were mummified themselves.

Pharaoh- Title of the kings of ancient Egypt.
