Today we woke up at usual time, to be down to breakfast at 8:30. I was anxious to get to the village because we had so much fun there yesterday.

I was looking forward to going in the Nile again. When we got to the village (Suhe) everyone was happy to see us. They waved and yelled. The day started with us sitting in one of Mohammed's sitting rooms drinking soda. Mohammed works for one of the tour agencies we use here in Aswan.

We sat there for about 15 minutes. I didn't get the point of us sitting there so I got up to find some of the women. When I walked out, Zanaab was pealing some garlic cloves. Zanaab is one of the very few women in the village who speaks some English. I immediately sat down and she gave me some garlic to peel. It was the best feeling to be in involved in interacting with the Nubians.

I already consider myself Nubian, but that was almost superficial. Now I feel a real connection to real Nubian people. I didn't realize until about halfway into the peeling, that I was helping with preparation for our lunch.

Just being in the village trying to speak kinzee, walking with them, preparing food with, swimming in the Nile with them, dancing with them, and just plain being in their company makes me feel a part of them.

It validated my claim that I am indeed Nubian.
